Roughly five thousand Africans survived the Middle Passage en route to French Louisiana during the 1720s, followed in the 1780s by a similarly sized group brought by the Spanish from the Benin and Congo regions. Enslaved Africans of the colonial era cleared forests, raised crops, and built the city infrastructure. In this visit You will see how African culture persisted in New Orleans, influencing everything from food to music to religion to architecture. Your tour guide will take you to the famous Square Congo, now part of Armstrong Park on the edge of the French Quarter in the Faubourg Treme where hundreds of African slaves and laborers congregated to trade goods, play music, dance, and socialize.

Urban Enslavement Tour at Hermann Grima House

This restored French Quarter home built in 1831, includes a Federalist architectural façade, original operating open-hearth kitchen, urban slave quarters, and expansive courtyard. Day trip to Essaouira the portuguese town from Agadir or Taghazout

The Medina of Essaouira, formerly named Mogador (name originating from the Phoenician word Migdol meaning a « small fortress »), is an outstanding example of a fortified town of the mid-eighteenth century, surrounded by a wall influenced by the Vauban model. Constructed according to the principles of contemporary European military architecture, in a North African context, in perfect harmony with the precepts of Arabo-Muslim architecture and town-planning, it has played a major role over the centuries as an international trading seaport, linking Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa with Europe and the rest of the world. The town is also an example of a multicultural centre as proven by the coexistence, since its foundation, of diverse ethnic groups, such as the Amazighs, Arabs, Africans, and Europeans as well as multiconfessional (Muslim, Christian and Jewish). Indissociable from the Medina, the Mogador archipelago comprises a large number of cultural and natural sites .

Laura Plantation Tour with Transportation

WEST-AFRICAN Captured for their agricultural and construction skills, their work created the Louisiana colony and influenced all segments of the newly-forming Creole culture, best seen today in language, cuisine, music, family-centered traditions, architecture and life-style. This sugarcane plantation started in 1805 with 7 enslaved people (six west-Africans and one Amerindian). As the plantation grew, so did the number of enslaved workers. Four original slave cabins built in the 1840s remain standing today on the plantation. By the onset of the Civil War, 186 workers were enslaved on this farm. Following the emancipation of slaves in Louisiana (1866), the great majority of these former slaves continued to live in the Laura Plantation quarters. Descendants of these men & women were displaced in 1895 when cypress lumber companies had their own workers inhabit the Laura slave quarters. The cabins were lived in until 1977. Descendants of slaves live near the Laura Plantation to this day.
