You will put to work your creativity by designing, cutting and carving your own jewel of Jade. You will be guided by one of our expert jade carvers so you can take home a unique creation, made with your hands. You will take with you a piece of our land and our culture. After retiring from banking, I discovered the arts of calligraphy and seal carving, which gradually transformed my life. My work has been recognized with prestigious awards at the Seoul Women's Craft Exhibition and the KT Corporate Competition. For the past 18 years, I've been teaching calligraphy at a women's professional education institute supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Since January 2018, I've had the privilege of introducing Hangul and Korean traditional culture to over 3,000 international visitors at my studio in Insadong. I also conduct traditional culture workshops for international corporations. I published "The Strength of Calligraphy" in 2018 and "Hello World!" in 2024. This book is a collection of memories and experiences from seven years of becoming with wonderful guests from a stranger to a closer. ***Please be advised that only those with reservations can attend the workshop.***

You will gain hands on experience with traditional tools and techniques of carving marble! I will guide you thru the process of carving a small relief sculpture that you can then take with you. You will have a unique perspective of the history and art of marble sculpture.

In this hands-on workshop participants are introduced to some of the basic concepts behind modeling objects in wood. You will become acquainted with the necessary tools and learn basic carving techniques. Under the watchful eye of an instructor, each person will carve a simple object. All tools and materials are provided.

Stone carving provides the perfect conditions where you can allow your thoughts to wander as the activity of carving becomes instinctive and unconscious. Choose from marble, sandstone or chalk. The workshops allows you to spend time with yourself in the company of others. Once you get there, you will feel as if you have crossed a portal to a magical world of alebrijes. These creatures that are carved out of wood are hand-painted and full of vibrant colors. They are the soul of Oaxacan handcrafts. After learning about the elaboration process of these fantastic figures and with the help of a master craftsman, you will be able to paint your own alebrije! You will be given a small figure, a paintbrush and paint. It is your moment to decorate your own chosen piece. Immerse yourself in the colors and let your imagination run free. The tour ends around 2:00 p.m. when we drop you off at your hotel or Airbnb. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting dirty since paint can get splattered on you.

I will introduce you to the basic of creating mosaics using all natural crystalline marble and granite pebbles collected from the local beaches of Naxos just as the Ancient used to. Design inspiration may come from archaic motifs. Work from our samples or bring your own ideas. Alternatively learn hand carving of marble and sculpture techniques. I will provide a worktable, a block of Naxos white marble for practice, a small stone for a relief carving, safety glasses, hand tools, hammer, files, sandpaper.
