Cave Tour with Local Guide


You will be visiting 3 of the remarkable caves here on the Island together with a Native or Local tour guide. We will pick you up at the ship's port or your hotel or apartment. Transportation from and to your accommodation is covered. The caves are located on the North side of the Island. One at the entrance of Santa Barbara and one just down the road at Hill Top; we will stop at the second Cave. This area is rich in caves. The first Cave we will be visiting has a ladder you must climb to get into Cave. When you are in the Cave, there will be bats and many unique rocks. When you are in the Cave, you will see a lot of types of limestones, as you can see in the pictures, and some of the rocks look like they have gliders on them because when you shine your light or flashlight on them, they start glowing. If you like cliff jumping, we will be visiting a small and low cliff jumping after the cave tour. It is enjoyable!!!! 🙂 The ridge is not high at all, and everyone can jump from it.

Algar do Carvão is closed for construction of the new visitor center since October 20th, 2024. The construction will take approximately 18 months. Open (14:00 – 18:00 summer/ 14:30 – 17:30 winter). October to April close Sunday, Monday and Thursday. Have you ever imagined yourself inside a volcano? In this tour, guided by a geologist, we will visit Gruta do Natal (Christmas Cave) and Algar do Carvão. From here in the center of the island, depending on the weather we can choose to taste our famous local cheese while learning some of the region’s history or take a dip in one of our natural ocean pools along the way, bring a towel and a swimsuit. The experience is a fully customizable private tour custom-made according to your personal needs and wishes.

Wombeyan Caves: Fig Tree Cave Tour


This is a self-guides tour. The limestone in the caves of Wombeyan Karst Conservation Reserve is 430 million years old. The geological processes that have created the magnificent cave system you see today continue to work their magic. You'll notice the impressive cave decorations, including stalactites and stalagmites, that are created by the infiltration of water into the caves. • Parking is available at Kui Kiosk and need to leave the cave by 4.15pm. • The cave is accessed by a token, a 15min walk from the visitor centre. Ticket holders will need to collect a token from the visitor centre before heading to the cave entrance. • There is a steep, 500m gravel path to the cave entrance. • The ground in the cave can be slippery, so please take care. • The temperature in the cave is approximately 15˚C all year round. • Food is not permitted inside the cave. • The cave is not suitable for prams. • Please use the public amenities at the visitor centre as there are no toilets near the caves.
