Cape Cross is 130 km from Swakopmund and along the route you will stop to marvel at the extensive lichen fields stretching away to the horizon, east of the coastal road. Another point of interest before you reach the holiday town of Henitiesbay is the “Free Republic of Wlotzka’s Baken”, some 40 km north of Swakopmund. Sighisoara, a monument protected by UNESCO since 1999, included on the world heritage list, boasts a medieval fortress inhabited today. For the first time in 1280, a fortress was built here. In the 14th century under the citadel were established craftsmen organized in strong guilds, which built around the fortress a stone defense wall, 930 meters long and 4 meters high. Rupea Citadel Romanian: Cetatea Rupea, German: Burg Reps, Hungarian: Kőhalmi vár is one of the oldest archaeological sites in Romania, the first signs of human settlements dating from the Paleolithic and early Neolithic. The first documentary attestation dates from 1324 when the Saxons revolted against King Charles I of Hungary and took refuge inside the citadel. According to archaeologists, the current citadel was built on the ruins of a former Dacian defense fort conquered by the Romans. The name of the citadel comes from Latin rupes meaning ston.

Kigoma Town Tour


On the shores of Lake Tanganyika, the important town of Kigoma borders the DR Congo, Burundi, and Zambia. The town was originally among the earliest settlements before the colonial era because of its advantageous position. The ancient settlement of Kigoma, also known as Kigoma/Ujiji, is one of the earliest towns in East Africa, along with Lamu, Mombasa, Kilwa, Bagamoyo, and Zanzibar. The town was a major center for commerce and the slave trade. On this excursion, you'll visit one of Lake Tanganyika's oldest ports (Kigoma Port). Luckily, you will get the chance to see the Mv. Liemba, the German ship, one of the oldest ships remaining in existence. You will be driven to the Kigoma Railway Station, which was built in 1913 by Germany to finish the extensive central railway that is still in use today. The next stop is the Kigoma Roman Catholic Church before continuing on to the Dr. Livingstone Memorial Museum, which is known for the Henry Stanley Molton quotation "I suppose."
