The Hanging Bridges Forest Reserve covers an area of 243 hectares (600 acres) of protected forest. This adventure is ideal for those who want to take in the characteristics and beauty of the tropical rainforest on foot. The 3.1 km (2 mi.) circuit trail will cross 15 impressive bridges, some suspended over the forest canopy and others, which are stationary. The bridges have different lengths and altitudes and were designed to offer different perspectives from which to observe the flora and fauna, as you pass through several levels of the forest. From the bridges, you will have views of the treetops making it easier to locate animals and birds. The topography of the terrain is relatively simple with some short slopes, suitable for all ages and ability levels. Some of the animals that we may observe in this type of forest are 3 different species of monkeys, multiple species of birds, snakes, peccaries, and frogs, among others.

This Noctural Walk in the Hanging Bridges allow the visitors to immerse in a lush rainforest with natural trails surrounded by wildlife species and discovering the spectacular Costa Rica Wildlife in its natural habitat. The topography of the terrain is relatively simple with some short slopes, suitable for all ages and ability levels. Some of the animals that we may observe in this type of forest are 3 different species of monkeys, multiple species of birds, snakes, peccaries, and frogs, among others.

The ride takes around 30 minutes to get to the rain forest where the hanging bridges of different heights are located. During this approximate two mile hike, with some luck, you will be able to see: Howler Monkeys, Spider Monkeys, white faced Capuchin Monkeys, many species of birds, snakes, Armadillos, Coatimundis (a member of the Racoon family often known to beg for scraps) and various other animals that may include Iguanas and Sloths. After our hike in the rain forest we will continue our journey to the La Fortuna Waterfall, a beautiful place with a lot of vegetation around it. Once there it is another hike down (500 steps with some resting areas) to the waterfall base to go for a swim in the cool pristine waters of La Fortuna river. After all this hiking exercise you will be hungry so we will visit a nice restaurant nearby to enjoy a delicious lunch.

Accompanied by a professional nature guide, you’ll walk across several bridges that hang from canyon wall to canyon wall, allowing you to see wildlife from above the tree top canopy. Your guide, equipped with a spotting scope and binoculars will point out wildlife and tell you about the natural history. Afterwards, you’ll head to the Pure Trek headquarters for a delicious, Costa Rican style lunch and meet your canyoning guides.
