Walk between Madeira´s highest peaks! Starting at Pico do Areeiro, within a short distance we come upon the Ninho da Manta (Buzzard’s Nest) belvedere. From this platform one can see the valley of Fajã da Nogueira, where some Manx shearwater (Puffinus puffinnus) breed, São Roque do Faial and a large part of the Central Mountain Range. To reach Pico Ruivo at 1862m, we must go around Pico das Torres up a steep incline of steps carved in the rock and then descend, the most difficult part of this trail being the final climb to the Shelter at Pico Ruivo. But the thought of reaching the highest point of the island is a driving force. From the Pico Ruivo shelter, the footpath leads to Achada do Teixeira car park, where you can see “Homem em pé” (Standing Man), a basalt rock formation found on the way down the slope after you pass the shelter at Achada do Teixeira.

Enjoy a spectacular walking adventure that you have certainly never done before. Leave Portela village on a traceable path passing through sporadically planted fruit trees and vines pushing gently upwards.

Pick up in the morning and 50min. roar to Rui Vaz village for hiking. Located in the middle of the island, hiking to Pico da Antonia can be challenging but worth it when you get on top. with a magnificent view, it offers you an exceptional panorama on the island, Pico de Antonia is the highest point on Santiago Island with 1394 meters of altitude. There you feel like you're at the end of the world touching the sky. From there, it is possible to see the whole island, and in a clear day you can see Fogo and Maio island.

Your tour to Houtbay leaves Cape Town and follows the drive along the Atlantic Seaboard, nestled between majestic mountain peaks and the rugged shoreline. Upon arrival in Houtbay Harbor, we board a glass-bottom vessel and take a boat trip to the local seal colony, where seals lie basking in the sun or frolic in the waves. Arriving back at the harbor there is more to explore and time will be allocated to having lunch before taking a drive to the viewing area on Chapmans Peak.
