We want your time with us to be a rich and enjoyable one, and to that end we encourage guests to not only participate but actively ask any questions they might have about Japan and tea ceremony. Our small team, fluent in English, are here to help make your time a memorable and authentic one. Tea ceremony is the perfect way to enjoy Japanese culture and experience a taste of Kyoto. Inclusivity is very important to us, and all are welcome. Chairs and tables are available for those that have difficulty sitting on the floor. All our sweets are vegan, nut free and gluten dress. Although we offer kimono rental, you do not need to wear kimono and please dress as you feel comfortable. Unfortunately children under 6 years old cannot participate in shared or private tea ceremonies. Feel free to take photos throughout the experience (please be mindful of other guests and please turn off the flash).

You can make traditional Japanese Washi paper from raw materials. Enjoy making a piece of washi paper and designing it using dried, pressed seasonal local flowers and leaves. After drying the paper, you can craft it into a set of postcards, or table-mat, or wraparound lampshade, or tapestry panel. You can proceed with it under the guidance of the instructor, in a relaxing atmosphere. While the paper is dried, you will be able to watch a short video of the traditional paper-making method which has been continued for over one thousand years. Handmade Japanese Washi paper will be the perfect souvenir or gift from Japan!

The basic principle of Ikebana is to "give life to the flowers" by using each flowers natural characteristics to its advantage in creating harmony and balance with other flowers. Flowers are living beings, and they will respond to us with their "smile" when we tune into their "feelings" while pondering the arrangement. Experience a unique hands-on method of practicing mindfulness, while learning and appreciating traditional Japanese wabi-sabi minimalist aesthetics. With 300 years of history behind the art of Ikebana, you will see how Japanese artists create an ecosystem of balance and harmony in one arrangement. Not only will you learn tips and tricks to help maintain fresh flowers that will allow them to last up to two weeks, but you will learn a new skill that will elevate your appreciation for nature.

During the Ikebana workshop, you'll create your own masterpiece, guided by our instructors. Your artwork will be displayed in a tokonoma (alcove) in a traditional Japanese room. This experience is a time for immersion in nature, showing reverence for it and engaging in self-dialogue. It is a form of meditation. The artwork in front of you is an expression derived from your past and present. It is recommended for those seeking new Zen experiences. Our style diverges slightly from classic forms, focusing on bringing out the beauty while respecting the natural form of the plants themselves. It might be likened to a primitive style, evoking a sense of wabi-sabi.

You can experience the traditional Japanese culture of ikebana during your trip! You can taste Japanese tea and traditional Japanese sweets. The experience location is 10-minute walk from Omori Station on JR line and Heiwajima Station on the Keihin Kyuko Line, which is also 10 minutes from Haneda Airport. Firstly, the interpreter will explain the history and spirit of ikebana at a flower store that has been loved by the locals for 70 years. After that, you will be able to choose one type of flower for yourself. Then, You will travel from the flower store to the classroom through the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter with an interpreter. A teacher from Ikenobo, Japan's oldest school of Ikebana, who has been arranging flowers for 65 years, will teach you everything from techniques to etiquette. This tour is not just a hands-on experience, but also a springboard to a deeper understanding of Ikebana and Japanese culture. The spirit of ikebana is rooted in the idea of giving life back to life by arranging flowers that had once been cut off by plucking. If flower arrangement is an aesthetic of addition, ikebana is an aesthetic of subtraction.

Dyeing small pieces of silk with dyes from a dye store with a history of over 100 years, and then plucking (pinching) them, is an authentic hands-on workshop that is rare in Japan. Which is the hot springs where you can rejuvenate your muscles and tired body. You can indulge in various hot spring baths, saunas, and rock baths. Additionally, you can use the comic book reading rooms, creating the perfect environment for relaxation in dimly lit and warm surroundings.
