During your Sapporo cooking class, cook alongside a professional culinary instructor, Shiori. She will expertly walk you through every step of creating a great Japanese dish. The cooking portion of your experience will last about 1 hour, during which you will learn to make 1 main dish and 1 side dish. Shiori will peel and cut vegetables in advance and you will help her prepare the dishes together. Your meal may include dishes such as a handmade sushi roll, somen noodles, grilled chicken and vegetables or nimono of fish cakes and vegetables. Private Market Tour & Japanese Cooking w/Aki in a Beautiful Home


Explore the local neighborhood street market (Demachiyanagi Shoutengai) with your host Aki and discover everything from basic Japanese ingredients to high-quality, regional produce. You'll walk through the market together and pick out a few vegetables and ingredients that you will later use in your cooking class. Back home, you will join Aki for a hands-on cooking experience in her beautiful kitchen and learn to make authentic dishes from scratch! Aki will provide you with recipes in English and guide you through the cooking process as she tells you all you'd like to know about Japanese food and culture. Your home-style meal may include dishes such as the traditional Chikuzenni (a main of braised chicken and vegetables that originated from Kyushu), seasonal vegetable sides such as marinated spinach with sesame or burdock root, and miso soup. The cooking portion of your experience should last about an hour before you sit down to enjoy the meal.

The teacher in this workshop is great experienced professional tea master, who learned Japanese traditional tea ceremony for more than 40 years and teach it to students for more than 15 years. You can learn how to be a guest for Japanese tea ceremony at Japanese traditional Tatami room while you are eating Wagashi which tea master made. There are some kinds of Wagashi, for example Nerikiri, Gyuhi (mochi), Manjyu and so on. The tea master will choose what kind of Wagashi you will eat depends on the season. You can try mixing the Matcha (green tea) and drink it by your self. Tea master show you about the history of Japanese tea ceremony and also you can ask any questions about tea ceremony.

Enjoy the calligraphy experience of traditional Japanese culture. With 25 years of experience as a calligraphy instructor, I will provide you with easy-to-understand and detailed instruction. We will talk about Japanese letters, explain how to use calligraphy tools, and teach you the basics of how to use a brush. Then, students choose one of the 12 kanji that are popular overseas, practice it, and write it on a Japanese board. Sign your name, place it in a special art frame, and your original work of art is complete. You can take it home, so please display it at home. At the end, enjoy green tea and Japanese sweets, and take a commemorative photo. It will be a wonderful memory for you. The event will be held on the first floor of a hotel in Shinsaibashi, the center of Osaka. It's very convenient, just 1 minute walk from the subway station.
