Oshima tsumugi is a traditional Japanese silk fabric. The production process involves about 30-40 steps, from making the yarn to extracting the dye solution, and only after many years are they born. The delicate kasuri (pattern) dyed threads are woven one by one by the hand of weavers. With the quick plan, you can dress up and enjoy commemorative photos in the store with your camera before exploring the city in your elegant attire.

At the Kyoto Shibori Museum, this traditional Japanese craft class shows you how to dye a 46cm x 180 cm silk georgette scarf using the Kyo-arashi shibori method. You'll end up with a beautiful silk scarf to serve as a souvenir of your trip to Kyoto. Classes are usually individual and take 30 minutes to 60 minutes per class. Start by choosing your favorite color and learning how to fold your fabric in a particular way. Wrap a tube with the folded fabric and wind a string around it. Squish the fabric down to the bottom of the tube and dye it. While your fabric is drying (about 30 minutes), you'll learn more about shibori. We will give you the kimono FOR FREE as a gift. The kimonos we provide are from the personal collection of a certified kimono dresser. All of the kimonos are made from high-quality fabrics and feature elegant, traditional designs that align with Japanese aesthetics. After the kimono dresser helps you put on the kimono, you are free to explore and take photos outside. The nearest attractions to us are Daitoku-ji Temple and Kinkaku-ji Temple. In this workshop, we use high-quality and beautiful kimonos salvaged from the tearing down of old houses. Unfortunately, many kimonos are discarded like other waste materials. Currently, Japan is seeing a decline in the use of kimonos and the preservation of old houses. This experience is more than just a craft activity, it is an opportunity to connect with Japan's rich cultural heritage and take a step towards a sustainable future. While preserving the essence of Japan's cultural heritage, participants breathe new life into old kimonos and create their own unique furoshiki, experiencing a sense of accomplishment.

Classes are usually individual and take 90 minutes to 120 minutes per class.  Start by choosing your favorite color and design, learning how to tie your fabric in a particular way and how to knot the thread. Dye the fabric and undo the thread to see the final result! While your fabric is drying (about 30 minutes), you'll learn more about shibori.
