Laguna 69

One of the best single day hikes in the world, ideal to appreciate the mountains in all their splendor. The color of the lagoon is one of the most beautiful in the world, as well as being at the foot of the imposing Nevado Chacraraju. You can make the most impressive and creative photographic shots, let your imagination run wild. It is located within the Huascarán Biosphere Reserve and the Huascarán National Park, where nature is unique and is one of the most beautiful mountain ecosystems in the world. Breathing the pure mountain air and feeling the cold of the ice is unmatched.

You will be picked up around 5AM from your hotel and reach the trailhead after ~3h drive. Beginning the trek, you will go through beautiful trek passes by alpine meadows and beside a river. The trail then ascends up along switchblades to reveal majestic waterfalls and streams. You'll enjoy views of two smaller lakes before your final ascent up the valley. After a steep incline up the mountain, you'll finally reach the renowned azure waters of Laguna 69 (~2h30/3h total hike). You will have ~1h30 of time to enjoy the view and have lunch (not incuded, bring your own picnic) before descending for another 1h30 hike and drive back to Huaraz. NB: this is not a private tour, so the vehicle will pick up different travelers in the morning. However, you will be free to explore and hike at your own pace.

On this tour we will visit a series of lagoons inside the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile. Our first stop will be at the famous Lagoa Cejar and Lagoa Piedra, surrounded by green and yellow grass that enhances the color of the water, contemplating the unique landscape of turquoise waters and volcanoes. In Lagoa Piedra we will have the possibility to take a bath and experience the Flotation Effect, similar to the Dead Sea.

Departure from the city of Huaraz at the agreed time, the route is in the northern part of the Callejón de Huaylas, we will pass through yungay, caraz from where the road turns east through the town of Parón, reaching the front of the Quebrada from Parón and the lake of the same name, located at 4170 meters above sea level, we will walk approximately 40 minutes to reach a tourist point from here you have a panoramic view of the lake and the mountains such as Huaydoy, Chacraraju, Piramide, Paron, Caraz and Needle and finally we will return to Huaraz.

On our way, we’ll pass the historic Chacabuco Monument, site of one of the most significant battles in Chile’s fight for independence (1817). We will then cross the international tunnel marking the regional boundary, where you’ll have a breathtaking view of Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Southern Hemisphere. Our first stop is the In Situ Vineyard in San Esteban, where you'll enjoy a tasting of premium local wines. Continuing our journey through Río Blanco, we’ll pass small villages, mining camps, and awe-inspiring mountain ranges before arriving at Portillo, home to the renowned Inca Lagoon. Take in the magnificent views while you have lunch (on your own) by the serene lagoon, surrounded by the beauty of the Andes.
