These sites are part of the historical and archaeological circuit of celebration and awareness of the African heritage of blacks in Brazil.  "Little Africa" has come to identify a significant part of the city's waterfront, where African presence and black cultural heritage have forever marked the history, not just of Rio de Janeiro but throughout Brazil.  Often blacks from all over the country were welcomed there, usually by "Aunt Ciata" who was a very important figure for this whole historical process. It is through this walk through "Little Africa" you will also get to know the Cultural Center "Tia Ciata", Museum of New Blacks, Cais do Valongo, hanging garden and we will finish in Pedra do Sal where besides the historical collection also has great bars and restaurants of typical Afro-Brazilian foods.

The Little Africa was the entrance point in Rio for several men, women and children coming from the African continent. It is a large zone that used to have a slave open market, stores, houses and graveyards. Walk through the alleys and pay attention to the remarks made by the tour guide. This hike, in the crater of Chã das Caldeiras, allows you to climb to the small crater formed by the volcanic eruption of 2014. It is the youngest crater on the island: the small Pico. Another sadder vision is the observation of the destruction caused by the lava flows rejected by this small crater. The inhabitants of the village show courage and are back after leaving their buried homes. Somehow, they rebuild their lives next to the volcano, for which they have great respect. As the world turns to computers and cars, a dedicated family of Bedouin horsemen are working hard to keep their traditions alive. Mountain Horse Stables is home to award winning marathon (endurance) horses as well as many rescued happy trail horses. In addition to training and breeding, the stable does on-site equine rehabilitation. Our rehabilitated horses are returned to their (now educated) owners or kept to lead a life of pampered luxury as one of our trail horses. We are licensed by the Petra Development and Tourism Authority and local Bedouin owned and operated.
