Longhouse Land

Learn about the traditional bamboo longhouses of Sarawak on this cultural three-hour tour from Kuching. Anah Rais is considered one of the largest Bidayuh longhouses and therefore one of the most popular. Previously known as the Land Dayak during the British colonial rule, this well preserved bamboo longhouse is home to many families.

Annah Rais is a Bidayuh longhouse ( Land Dayak ) about 45 minutes from Kuching. Explore the well preserved traditional bamboo longhouse. Visitors are given the opportunity to study the unique architectural and cultural features of the longhouse as well as the traditional farming lifestyle. The journey to Kampong Annah rais will pass through the beautiful limestone formation scenic view , as well as the countryside view, mountain range, palm oil estate, paddy field. Discover the Bidayuh tribe’s Mongkos village near the Kalimantan border.  You’ll find that Mongkos is a thriving rural community & home to one of the few remaining traditional Bidayuh longhouses in Sarawak. You’ll visit the traditional longhouse for a  tour to learn about its history & experience how a native lunch is prepared.  Kampung Mongkos has two of the very few surviving Bidayuh longhouses in Sarawak. The village has existed for over a hundred years and is located near Sungai Mongkos.

The trekking combines upriver travel, jungle trekking, caving the show caves and overnight stay at an Iban longhouse. The trail itself follows the route taken by Kayan headhunting parties who paddled up and trekking to where they launched headhunting raids against the people of the Limbang area. Headhunter’s Trail can also be done in reverse, starting from Limbang and ending up at the Park HQ.
