There are about 6000 red colobus monkeys residing in Jozani Forest. Jozani Forest has several habitats including Swamp Forest, Evergreen Thickets, Mangroves, as well as a variety of wildlife, including sykes and red colobus monkeys, and lots of birdlife. After visiting the monkeys, you will walk across to the Pete-Jozani Mangrove Boardwalk, which entwines through coral thicket vegetation, mangrove forest and across a creek.

Jozani Forest


The Jozani Forest is located in the central east region of Zanzibar Island is the home of rare Red Colobus Monkey, which is only endemic to Zanzibar. A red colobus monkey, unlike their more widespread and adapted cousins, the Black and White Colobus, are a rain forest species which are now confined to very small areas of equatorial forest in tropical Africa. It is therefore a rare treat to be able to see them here in Zanzibar. The reserve also accommodate a large mangrove swamp and a tract of natural forest that is home to a few unique species including the Sykes monkey, bush babies, duikers, hyraxes, over 50 species of butterfly and 40 species of birds.

The trip starts from Maputo after the guide picks you up from your point of choice you will drive for 1 – 1.30 minutes to get to Maputo National Park. You will spend 5/6 hours driving in the park looking and observing the wildlife this park offers.
