The Kiwi is one of New Zealand's national icons. The two kiwi on this tour are part of the NZ North Island Brown Kiwi Breeding Recovery Program. The kiwi are in their own private natural habitat, away from the public. They share this with two morepork (brown owl). This kiwi tour is an incredibly intimate experience, in groups of up to 10 people, the experience offers you an up-close advantage of the ever-elusive kiwi in its natural habitat. Manu National Park in Peru, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, spans 1.7 million hectares from the Amazon rainforest to the Andes mountains. It's divided into three zones: Special Use for research and education, Reserved for authorized scientists, and Cultural for indigenous communities like the Matsiguenga and Amahuaca. Boasting over 800 bird species, 200 mammals, and numerous reptiles, amphibians, plants, and trees, including jaguars and blue-headed macaws, the park is a biodiversity hotspot. In this tour we travel through the mountains to enter cloud forest, where we do some walks to observe several species of birds, orchids and maybe monkeys. After spending the night in our private lodge (Rainforest) we continue 3 hours by boat to Amazon lodge deep in the jungle, visiting hot springs on the way. We sleep in a tree house besides a mammals clay lick to watch out for tapirs, deers and other animals. The following day we explore the primary rainforest (untouched) with a chance to see many monkey species, birds like parrots and an unbelievable variability of plants like giant trees, palms and medical plants. We end the day with a night-walk to observe spiders (tarantulas), insects, frogs and snakes. On the last day we return to Cusco by boat and bus.
