Journey to Jubilee Guided Tour at Belle Meade

Embark on a 1-hour journey into Belle Meade with its Journey to Jubilee historic tour. Join us as we take an honest look at the lives and stories of the African Americans who were enslaved, and later employed, at Belle Meade with intentional respect and empathy. Our Journey to Jubilee tour is intended to honor the legacy and sacrifices of the individuals held in legal bondage on this property from 1807 until emancipation in 1865, as well as to explore the complexities of their new freedom in the post-Civil War years. Using a unique approach that includes reading aloud from primary sources, and engaging dialogue with the audience, this experience creates a forum for exploring the history of slavery in a new way. Enjoy a complimentary Wine Tasting after your tour and access to the Grounds for a self-guided tour. Women Of Ireland: Trailblazers & Pioneers

History is filled with stories of great expeditions, fearless rebels, amazing inventions, brave patriots and scientific advancements. Did they not play a role in scientific advancements and society as a whole? We know that history is written by the victors. Yoshida Udon Cooking Class Yamanashi Traditional Dish.

Fujiyoshida City, at Mount Fuji's base, spans elevations of 650m to 850m, with an average temperature of 11°C. The land, affected by volcanic soil, was unsuitable for rice but ideal for barley, wheat, and corn, leading to the udon culture. During the Edo period, Fuji pilgrims frequented the area, prompting the sale of udon in homes for visitors. Many udon shops today still resemble residential houses, with subtle signage. The weaving industry thrived here from the late Edo to Showa periods, with women primarily engaged in weaving while men took up cooking and udon-making roles. This division of labor, designed to protect women's hands, led to the creation of Yoshida Udon, characterized by its chewiness and thickness, due to men's vigorous kneading.

Known as the ‘Chicago of the South’ Sydney in the 1920s and 1930s was famous for its vicious gang rivalry, cocaine addition, and sly-grog scene. From this labyrinth of lanes a mass of criminal empires emerged, ruled by two mob bosses with a difference – these bosses were women. Hailed Queens of the Underworld, Tilly Devine and Kate Leigh, had crawled their way up from obscure origins over the bodies (sometimes literally) of men to become the most powerful women in Sydney, and they were not about to give up that power — especially not to each other. Join us as we explore the lesser known laneways and secrets of Surry Hills, meet the colourful collection of working girls, gangsters and hit men who gave Sydney a bad reputation, finishing on Stanley Street a popular street with many speakeasy style bars.
