Experience Mikoshi Parade in Kichijoji, Tokyo! On September 13 and 14, the “Kichijoji Autumn Festival” is held. It’s a great opportunity to experience a traditional festival featuring the parade of Mikoshi portable shrines. You’ll watch as many as 11 Mikoshi, one from Musashino Hachimangu Shrine and 10 from each district of the town. Every Mikoshi group has its own distinctive style of carrying and shouting. At the highlight, all Mikoshi gather and demonstrate their performances. The gallery is now exhibiting original drawings from “Hana no Keiji-Beyond the Cloud-” by Hara Tetsuo who is well known for his work, “Fist of the North Star” The event is ‘ANIME FANTASISTA JAPAN 2024’, new event held only on August 11 and 12. 15 animation studios in this city gather here and show animations, demonstrate animation making, exhibit original drawings, etc. Also in the tour, check the seven spots where popular anime characters are painted on the lids of man-holes. On the way, I’ll explain the basics of Japanese Buddhism and the temple’s long history. At Jindaiji, we’ll stroll the quiet grounds and join a traditional *oharai* purification ritual. Inside the main hall, you’ll observe monks performing this ceremony, where sacred fire is still used—a rare tradition preserved over centuries. You purchase a protective *ofuda* charm. The purification ritual requires the purchase of “Ofuda”. The cost of the “Ofuda” is already included in the participation fee. Next, we’ll enjoy handmade soba noodles at a local restaurant with insights into the land, food, and history.
