It is a desert area, a geomorphological marvel. Our ancestors called it Las Salinas today known known worldwide as Valle de la Luna, surrounded by a set of landscapes of incomparable beauty that resemble a fragment of the lunar landscape to which it owes its name. In 1982 it was declared a Nature Sanctuary and is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve in this place you can see a geological spectacle of great interest, especially when sunrise and sunset. During your visit you can contemplate: the famous natural formation known by our ancestors as Los Tres Watchmen today called Las Tres Marías, Duna Mayor; majestic body of sand and viewpoints such as; Quebrada Honda where the famous Piedra del Coyote (Mirador de Ckari) is located. Leaving behind the fertile Lerma Valley, we ascend the Quebrada de Escoipe and continue along the imposing Cuesta del Obispo and Valle Encantado, surrounded by mountains. Route 9 will begin the ascent, passing through the towns of Volcano (2,070 meters above sea level) and Tumbaya, which are erected on the banks of the Rio Grande. Hol Chan Marine Reserve is located off the southern tip of Ambergris Caye. Mayan for “little channel”, Hol Chan Marine Reserve is doubtfully one of the most popular dive sites in the Caribbean, and indeed in Belize. The entire reserve focuses on a cut through the reef (called a quebrada) which is little more than 25 yards wide and 30 feet deep about 4 miles southeast of San Pedro. Hol Chan has burgeoned into a unique refuge, with vigorous coral formations and a richness of marine life. We will then head to the neighboring Turtle Garden, where you will snorkel or dive and be able to get up close and personal with ecstatic Sea Turtle and Southern Sting Rays.
