Along the Northern Oregon Coast, you will find old-growth forests, pristine beaches, majestic capes and stunning views. The Oregon Coast is an experience like no other and our guides have selected a quieter, slower approach to the day: a visit to Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach; hikes through old-growth forests to views beyond what the common tourist sees; up-close encounters with the iconic monoliths that make the Oregon Coast so unusual; a lunch stop in a sweet beach town; recommendations for our favorite cinnamon rolls, pie or ice cream; sand (if you want it) between your toes. Day tours can feel long but ours feels more like a just-right exploration with plenty of time to sit however you like with the majesty of the ocean — or spend most of your time wandering in the forest as you listen to waves crash beneath you. On this day-long excursion you’ll explore the northern stretch of shore between Astoria and Cannon Beach as your guide leads you through an oceans-worth of American history, coastal culture, and pristine nature. Start your day in the bustling seaport of Astoria, where the Columbia River feeds into the Pacific, and Lewis & Clark and John Jacob Astor concluded their epic expeditions. Wander the town’s docks, wind up the Astoria Column, and walk through Fort Clatsop, before continuing south along beaches and bluffs to Cannon Beach. A quintessential beach town, the savory smell of chowder houses meets the briny ocean air on Cannon Beach’s picturesque streets. After meandering through the town, you’ll take to the beach for an interpretative nature walk to Haystack Rock with your naturalist guide. Complete your day by traversing through a maze of Sitka spruce in Ecola State Park. The forest opens to a secluded beach where you’ll cap off your tour with an amazing view of the crashing waves.

His grandfather first moved the family to Pacific City in 1971 to commercial dory fish for salmon. His work history in the tourism field is extensive. Working in Skagway, Alaska, responsible for the transport of up to 50 guests, taking them from the docks, through congested mountain roads, to the interior of the Yukon, Canada. He did this in a 45-foot MCI motor coach and earned a CDL along the way. He’s been a courtesy driver at several establishments ranging from White Elephant Hotel in Nantucket, MA, St. Regis in Park City, UT, and the Little Nell Hotel in Aspen, CO. His rich, local family history, combined with his extensive background leading tours, makes him an ideal guide. Paired with his enjoyable personality and outgoing manner, guests are sure to have an unforgettable time on the Oregon Coast.

We’ll fly along the Sandy River up toward Mt. Hood, over the Mt. Hood National Forest with terrific views of the mountain on your right heading north toward the Columbia River Gorge. We will descend into the gorge with stunning views of the mountain and the length of the gorge toward Portland. After that, our flight will take us past Multnomah Falls and other Gorge highlights rounding it all out for a private Columbia River Gorge airplane tour to remember. The Oregon coast is one of the most majestic geologic formations that was formed by lava flows millions of years ago. We depart to the coast and have lunch in the charming town of Cannon Beach and do hiking and exploring on the coast. Explore the majestic Oregon coast, view the amazing Haystack Rock formation, and during low tide gaze at starfish and clams. We will also explore Oswald State Park for lite trail walking and see the stunning cliffs of Manzanita point. This is a joinable small group tour for 2 persons or more, door to door service. Please dress for the season, expect a full day beginning 10am and back to Portland by 6pm.
