Plateau Tour

This tour will give travelers the opportunity to explore interesting places at the Plateau of Lassithi, the area where Zeus was born according to the mythology. Climbed at 850meters above the sea level, the plain of Lasithi has the highest production of agricultural products in Crete. There are 18 villages built on the surrounding mountains of the plateau. Clients will admire a panoramic drive through the plateau, the Monastery of Vidiani, Lasinthos Eco Park and the traditional village of Krasi. Following, the participants will be guided in an Olive Mill Farm and see the production of olive soap, olive oil etc. and enjoy an unforgettable meal made from local products, at their own expense at the Olive Mill Farm, with unique aromas from the surrounding wild mountain and view to the Aegean Sea. Our day will end with a guided tour at the word wide famous Archaeological Site of Knossos, the capital of ancient Minoan civilization, the first in Europe.

You start your exploration by visiting the magnificent monastery of Panagia Kera. A splendid monument of architecture and iconography, it operates as a nunnery and it gathers pilgrims from all over Crete. Next stop over is the Dictean Cave, a cave of mystic atmosphere, impressively adorned by large columns, stalactites and stalagmites. According to mythology, the Dictean Cave was the birthplace of Zeus, the father of gods, and the place he was worshipped. The tour ends by visiting Tzermiado, the capital of the Plateau.

Moving on inland to the Lassithi Plateau, you can admire the remaining famous windmills, the ditches, the Venetian drainage system of the plateau and the small traditional villages that still keep the scent of another era. The most famous is the village of Psychro, where you can admire the primeval traditional art of pottery-making by the remaining craftsmen. The next stop is Tzermiado, a village that stands out for its natural beauty, its breathtaking view and its traditional architecture. Next stop, the Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa, which was named after a miraculous icon of Virgin Mary. Last stop, the Palace of Knossos. You are going to walk on Sir Arthur Evans’ steps, listening to the myth of the Labyrinth, while this Minoan masterpiece will amaze with its grandeur.

Driving snowmobile is a great way to experience freedom and it is an activity that we really enjoy to offer. We arrange organized guided tours since 2007 and have the knowledge about the area and the best way to explore it. We will take you to breathtaking places with incredible and different views where we can stop and take some pictures. If we are lucky we can also meet a reindeer herd in their traditional migration over the mountain plateau.

High-altitude plateau goes along the river Assy to the east. Along the river Assy there are ancient burial mounds and rock carvings, which are one of the highest mountain clusters of petroglyphs in Kazakhstan. An observatory of astrophysics is built on the upper platform of the plateau, in which one of the world's largest telescopes is installed.

The Haut-Taravo region is a region particularly rich in natural heritage. The cuscionu plateau is a plateau at altitude, you can discover it by electrically assisted mountain bike on small dirt tracks maintained through streams and the famous "Pozzini". Many animals will be present including the famous wild horses. All this will leave room for a great experience for anyone coming to discover Haut-Taravo and its extraordinary places. The region is particularly known for its artisanal production of various products, such as charcuterie, honey and saffron. You will also find all along the route many places where you can eat and stay.
