Reindeer Sledding and Feeding with Sami Culture in Tromso.


You will get the opportunity to know the Sami culture and join a pleasant Reindeer Sledding in beautiful North Norwegian nature. Saami are the indigenous people of the North and our Sami guide would like you to get to know his culture better, both past, present and future, through tasting some typical Sami food, seeing Sami artifacts and hearing stories and traditional Sami singing. * If conditions change we keep the right to amend the duration of the sled-ride. * All animals used for these services are trained for the activity, however, the behavior of animals can be unpredictable and therefore it is essential that all participants follow all given instructions for their safety, and the safety of others. *Each reindeer and sled are bound together in a long row with the lead reindeer in the front. * Sleds are shared, 2 participants on one sled. *Reindeer Sledding is subject to snow and if weather conditions don't allow us to run the sled-ride we will offer you a partial refund.

Enjoy the Sami experience of reindeer sledding, where you'll enjoy a long sleigh ride (30 mins) pulled by a wild reindeer. Then feed a herd of 300 reindeer at the camp, and gather inside a traditional Sami tent for a hot meal and to listen to stories about Sami culture around the campfire. A Sami guide will also perform a joik, traditional folk song, for you, before return transportation to Tromsø.

Ready to experience the Sami culture? In this tour, we take you to a Sami family so you can see how they live and try different Sami activities like lasso-throwing. That's the way Sami people catch their reindeer. When you have caught the reindeer you also get allowed to feed them! Enjoy a light refreshment in a heated cabin. This activity also fits well for kids 6 and above. This tour does not include reindeer sledding.

Reindeer visit, and Sami Culture Including Lunch from Tromso


The reindeer and the Sami have been living and working on this land for centuries and they have only recently invited guests to be part of their daily life. You will visit their camp and have a chance to feed the herd of around 300 wild reindeer who will swarm all around and some will even eat from your hands. You will then be invited for hot drinks around the fire inside a warm candlelit gamme (Traditional Sami Hut) where lunch, bidos, cooked over the open fire will be served (a traditional Sami stew which is often served at Sami weddings and other special occasions). After lunch you will be invited into a lavvu (Sami tent) and gather around the fire to listen to stories about Sami culture and how it is to be a reindeer herder. The Sami guide will also perform a joik (traditional Sami song) for the guests.

The Sami guide will also perform a joik (traditional Sami song) for the guests. If you are lucky and the sky is clear you will have a chance to see the northern lights above the reindeer camp.

In summer we do a light hike, visit Nikkaluokta chapel and have lunch in the Sami-owned restaurant, in winter we visit the guide's home for a Sami activity and lunch.
