You will share a snowmobile with another person, taking turns as the driver and passenger. Halfway through the tour, we’ll have a short break where you’ll swap places, ensuring both of you have the chance to drive the snowmobile. After the tour, you can relax and warm up with a hot meal and drink by the open fire inside one of the lávvus (indigenous Sámi tent). During your meal, a camp host will inform you where and when you are expected for the second part of your activity: the visit to Tromsø Ice Domes Snow Park. Enter the Park and discover the magic of the snow and ice sculptures. Wander around by yourself through a mesmerising display of snow and ice sculptures, a snow maze and explore our two domes. Marvel at the amazing art coming to life with light in its natural surroundings of pristine nature and peaceful Arctic landscapes. Get close to the two most iconic animals of Northern Norway: cuddle and take photos with our huskies and go visit the reindeers near the park.

We’ll begin with a visit to the famous Snow Monkey Park, where you can watch wild Japanese macaques enjoying a soak in the hot springs—set in the peaceful mountains of Nagano. After the walk, we’ll head over to the nearby Shibu Onsen area, a beautiful historic hot spring town. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant here, featuring freshly made soba noodles and other regional specialties. After lunch, you’ll have time to unwind in one of Shibu Onsen’s public baths. The mineral-rich waters are said to have healing properties and offer the perfect way to relax. And for a bit of extra fun, there’s the chance to collect stamps from different hot springs using a special towel—a local tradition that adds a playful touch to your visit. Jigokudani Yaen-koen is home to hundreds of “snow monkeys”, known as such because they spend their days soaking in the mountainous hot springs. In 1970 they appeared on the cover of Life magazine in the U.S. due to this unique behaviour. Furthermore, in 1998, when the winter Olympic Games was held in Nagano, lots of athletes, media, and tourists from foreign countries visited. Monkeys don’t soak in the hot spring in the warm season because they bathe in order to prevent from the severe coldness in winter. Soaking in the hot spring is only one part of the monkeys’ life. You can also see them lazing or frolicking on the nearby mountain and forest.
