Since 1953 the national Greek Dances Theatre of "Dora Stratou" is the the living museum of Greek dance and is unique, in its kind, in the world. Dances, songs and music are presented in their original forms as were or are still performed in the respective villages or islands of Greece. All the costumes worn by the performers are authentic museum pieces, handmade in those villages more than a century ago. The theatre's wardrobe contains 2,000 such historical costumes from all over Greece, complete with jewelry and accessories. Extensive field studies by a team of researchers under the direction of professor Alkis Raftis supports the fidelity of performances to the original.

The new show by Vera Dragone takes its title from a famous piece by Lelio Luttazzi: a show with 9 artists on stage that proposes the setting and the sounds of the great Italian television variety of the 60s, one above all: Milleluci. The repertoire is inspired by the great ensemble numbers that have seen unforgettable performers such as Raffaella Carrà, Milva, Ornella Vanoni, Mina, Lo same Luttazzi, Jula De Palma and many others dance and sing. Along with her a varied kaleidoscope of artists: There are the dancers, the singer, the live band. A ‘Session’ (in Gaelic ‘Seisún’, pronounced ‘sesh-oon’), is a traditional Irish gathering of musicians, dancers, poets and storytellers. It is always an informal, lively and colourful event. A group of artists in Renvyle have put a new twist on the old concept and added drama to their ‘Seisún’. Under the guidance of Ireland’s largest group dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music, this show makes the most of Irish music, dance and storytelling to present a moving account of how the Great Famine had a devastating effect on the West of Ireland. The second half of the show requires some audience participation and you will be invited to learn and join in Irish folk dances. If you can play a tune or sing a song, in the spirit of a true Seisún, you will be welcome to take the floor. Seisún is performed every Tuesday night throughout July and August in the Teach Ceoil (House of Music) in Renvyle in Connemara, county Galway.
