If you want to get a taste of the authentic local culture instead of visiting the standard tourist attractions in Tirana, the best thing to do is to jump into this day tour. We will have the opportunity to try Byrek and have breakfast like a local. The journey then leads towards Çam bazaar. With your local companion by your side, you’ll skip past the tourist traps and discover the city’s culinary highlights in some of our favourite local neighbourhoods, where you'll have the opportunity to savour a traditional dessert at an authentic pastry. We will join locals at a cosy café and taste traditional "Albanian coffee". The next stop of our local adventure takes us to the New Bazaar. We will try the traditional Albanian lunch – "Qofte" (meatballs) paired with freshly baked bread. Vegetarians can enjoy freshly baked bread with Albanian Gjize (cottage cheese). Albania's capital city of Tirana is like no other Balkan capital cities with its iconic high-rise architecture and redesigned public spaces, and its delayed 'Dolce Vita' atmosphere of cafes and restaurants. Our half day walking tour will start at the very heart of the city's Monumental Center, where we will observe the strong differences between the overbearing communist buildings of the Palace of Culture and the National History Museum, versus the Italian governmental buildings of the 1920s by the Italian architect Armando Brasini. As we will walk by the statue of Albania's national hero Skenderbeg, we will head to the Et’hem Bey Mosque and the Watch Tower – reminders of Tirana's 17th and 19th centuries expansion, and later its twentieth century turbulent history. We will have a chance to walk on by the newly reopened Toptani castle, and the stone Tanner's Bridge, followed by a quick stop at the Pyramid and a visit to the Blloku area, along with the dictator's Enver Hoxha villa.

For 3 hours we will wander in Tirana's main neighborhoods talking about its history from Romans, Ottomans, Communism time, and present. We will walk on the Main Square talking about the foundation of Tirana and the buildings surrounding it. Then will pass at Toptani area, King's Zog old castle, and the prince residence. Will continue to Main Boulevard and will pass by the Pyramid, Prime Ministry, Parliament Offices, Presidency, University, etc. Our tour will end up with a visit at ex-Blloku, which was once the communist leaders' residence quartier closed from the public eye, Hoxha's house is still there and we can see from outside.
