This small peninsula, 1.5 hours from Kuching City is home to seven distinct rainforest ecosystems, giving it a remarkable diversity of animal and plant life. Unique geological features mark the coastline, whilst well-marked trails lead to rugged jungle-covered hilltops and secluded beaches. The best times for seeing wildlife at Bako are just after dawn and just before dusk, when the animals are at their most active. You are more likely to see animals on the trails if you go in small groups, walk slowly, keep as quiet as possible, and listen out for sounds and movements in the forest.


Semenggoh Orangutan Centre from Kuching


Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is located 24km from the centre of Kuching. This orangutan rehabilitation centre trains orphaned or rescued orangutans how to survive in the wild. Over 20 orangutans live in forest within the nature reserve and often return to the centre at feeding times.
