Turrialba

This one-day trip is a full day of paddling exciting whitewater past cascading waterfalls and the spectacular rainforest. The Pacuare’s class 3 and 4 rapids are suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers, ages 12 and older, who are ready for adventure and being physically active all day. After an early pick-up at your San Jose area hotel, we will drive to Cartago – Costa Rica’s historic capital city – and through small towns and countryside to the rafting hub of Turrialba. We’ll stop for breakfast (included) and afterward head to the Pacuare River put in. At the river, your guides will outfit you with rafting equipment and give a paddling explanation and safety talk. Then the fun begins! We’ll paddle 18 miles downriver through class 3 and 4 rapids like “Huacas,” “Rodeo,” “Pinball,” “Cimarrones,” and “Dos Montañas.” Along the way, we’ll stop for a riverside picnic lunch. After finishing rafting, you’ll be able to change into dry clothes before driving back to San Jose.

Turrialba is known for some amazing cultural experiences, unique rainforest as well as being home to some of the most pristine rivers in Costa Rica! The Pacuare River is rated as the 4th best river in the world for white water rafting. A unique experience for any visitor to Costa Rica & the Turrialba area! You will be taken deep into the rainforest where you will experience 29km of the majestic river! Our experienced & certified guides will take all the precautions and provide the appropriate instructions before you embark on this adventure! During the trip, you will see the primary rainforest, pristine waterfalls & unique landscapes only accessible by the river! At the end of the trip, we will have a typical Costarrican lunch waiting for you!

The tortuguero canals, will lead you through the living jungle that stretches over the narrow canals, formed by the rivers born in the high mountains, making their way to the sea. Common sightings here are monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas and sloths. The canals are also considered a bird watcher’s paradise, so keep your eyes open! The canals of Tortuguero are without a doubt one of the main attractions in Costa Rica, and this is a unique opportunity to experience this natural wonder. You will pass through some of the country’s most fertile areas and learn about Costa Rica’s main agricultural products. Along the way, you will see cocoa plantations and ornamental flowers. Also, you are not gonna be in a big group at many 22 people in a car in these small groups you can enjoy a better view and better communication with the tour guide.

However, even the non-bilingual drivers will understand basic English commands such as bathroom or grocery stops, they can also always use the translator through our van WIFI or call our office for extra assistance. Please note that this does not put down 100% the possibility of your driver for the day being bilingual as we could encounter cancellations or calendar modifications that will free our current schedule.

The tour consists of an experiential activity in Finca Agropecuaria Queveri. It consists of going to the paddocks of the farm, and herding the cattle (with the support of Queveri staff) all the way to the old dairy. While doing it, you can enjoy the views and learn about the importance of the place. If the weather let us do so, the tour is going be completed with a visit to the viewpoint, where you can see the volcanic mountain range of Costa Rica (Poás Volcano, Barva Volcano, Irazú Volcano, and Turrialba Volcano) and Tapanti National Park. At the viewpoint, you can visit the Piedras del Alto and mark them with your name to remember that you were there.

We will stop for a typical Costa Rican breakfast and take you to the river by private car. Once we have arrived to the Pejivaje River, you will be greeted by your guides and given instructions to keep your group safe while enjoying the thrill of the river.
