What to Expect When Visiting Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, Caribbean

If you have visited the Grand Bahama Island and feel like there is nothing left to see, we now offer day trips to Sweeting’s Cay, about 4 miles off the east end of Grand Bahama Island. Here guests are able to spend the day kayaking, fishing, riding a bike through the village or just relaxing on the beach at a private home on the cay.

No vacation to the beautiful Bahamas is complete without a tour of the island’s East End. This conch-cracking capital of the world is one of the island’s oldest areas, yet it is also considered one of its most beautiful regions.

Get picked up at your hotel and let the tour begin! One of our 6-hour escorted tours will take you out of the industrial area of the city of Freeport, through different communities and to the East End of the Bahama Island. Upon arrival, your tour boat will take you to a private spot with it’s own beach where you can sunbathe, look for shells or just relax. If you are adventurous, you can jump into a kayak and check out the stunning beaches in the area or take in nature’s beauty as you kayak through the mangroves of the Bahamas. This place is rarely frequented by tour guides, so you will have hand lines available for you if you want to try to catch fish like the locals do for dinner off the rocks. If you are not too exhausted from fishing, kayaking or relaxing on the beach, you have the option of ordering lunch and riding a bicycle to Sea Gull restaurant or have them bring you a hot lunch (not included in tour). Lunch is generally lobster, peas and rice, corn on the cob and potato salad. While here you can do some exploring of the cay and see the only turtle lake where you can see turtles in their natural environment. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn about the rich history of one of the oldest towns on the island and discover the captivating Bahamian culture, filled with Caribbean beats, straw weaving, boot legging and rum running! At the end, the group will head back to the main land to hop aboard the bus to head back to the hotel; this will be the end of your day trip to Sweeting’s Cay.
