The day consists of a moderate 2-hour hike alongside the blue waters of Rio Blanco located deep in the canyons of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano where you will spot wildlife with your local guide along the way. You will be lead along the shaded path that goes upriver, stopping by 5 different pools and passing through a stone canyon, caves and small waterfalls until you reach the entrance of the canyon that leads to La Leona waterfall. Here you put your things in a drybag to jump into the water and swim a short distance to the waterfall. The waterfall has a stone beach in front of it where you can take photos. This tour is available for all ages. Ages between 7 years old to 60 years old senior people. Tour duration with roundtrip transportation from hotels to both tours and lunch are around 6 to 7 hours. Walking duration total are 1 hour and 45 minutes roundtrip by the trails. Clients take a truck ride from the parking area to the hiking trail. 2 miles roundtrip hiking. Hiking is extreme and require good physical conditions, hiking shoes or sneakers (NO FLIP FLOPS). Brings towels, comfortable clothes, raincoat, insect repellent, sunblock, swimsuit, extra clothes and cash for extras. Hot springs and volcanic mud-bath tour duration are 1 hour. Exfoliate the skin with natural volcanic mud and soak with hot springs water. IMORTANT NOTE: Hike at the waterfall La Leona are really extreme because you have to climb stairs up and down the rocks and vines, streams to get to the waterfall. NO RECOMMENDING for pregnancy women's, persons with cardiac problems or another health limitation.

La Leona Waterfall is located in the small town of Curubande, 20 minutes from Liberia. La Leona is a unique deep blue waterfall rooted between two canyons. It’s one of the few, if not the only, one in Costa Rica with this characteristic. Its water comes from the “white river” or “Rio Blanco” that finds its source in the foothills of the Volcano Rincon de la Vieja. The color of the water is just amazing, between blue and turquoise, which is explained by the presence of sulfur in the water. It’s definitely a must in this area! We’ll start our hike through a canyon and inside the tropical forest. Most of the trail is next to the Blanco River, walking through caves and sometimes even swimming to go around big rocks that surround this place.
