Stop At: Parliament Square, Bay St., Nassau New Providence Island
Originally built in the late 1700s and early 1800s by Loyalists who came from North Carolina to The Bahamas, Parliament Square is a popular attraction in downtown Nassau. Its Colonial-influenced pink buildings include the House of Assembly, the Senate Building and the Supreme Court of The Bahamas—and they are wonderfully symbolic of the past, present, and future of the country.

Pass By: Government House, Blue Hill Road and Duke Street, Nassau New Providence Island
Now the official residence of the Governor General of The Bahamas, Government House is a popular and picturesque historic attraction, and recognized as one of the foremost examples of Georgian Colonial architecture in the Islands.
The Past
Located on ten-acre estate on Mount Fitzwilliam, Government House dates back to 1737 when it was originally built as a home for Governor Richard Fitzwilliam. A new building was constructed in 1806, measuring over 100 feet in length with upper balcony that spanned from end to end, with a statue of Christopher Columbus added to the front of the house in 1830. For approximately the next 100 years, Government House was home to the Governors of The Bahamas until 1929 when the entire house was destroyed.
Pass By: Queen’s Staircase, Top of Elizabeth Avenue, off Shirley Street, Nassau New Providence Island
The 102-foot staircase was hand-carved by approximately 600 slaves, who used pick axes and hand tools to cut their way through solid limestone, and the entire staircase took over 16 years to complete. It was only decades later that the impressive staircase was then named in honor of the 65-year reign of Queen Victoria, “who had signed a declaration to abolish slavery on her ascension to the throne in 1837.” Today, the Queen’s Staircase still acts as both a passageway to Fort Fincastle and a shortcut to Bennet’s Hill.
Stop At: The Bahamas Rum Cake Factory, 602 E Bay Street, Nassau N-4122 New Providence Island
The Bahamas Rum Cake Factory story begins in the heart of downtown Nassau, the Bahamas in the year 2000. George Bates, originally from the United Kingdom founded a recipe that would inspire his “Original” Rum Cake. Everyone loved his recipe so much that he decided to open a small Rum Cake shop, a store that has since then grown into the most favorite brand of Rum Cake in The Bahamas. Today, the Bahamas Rum Cake Factory still sits in the same location that it started out at, and has created a culture so irresistibly delicious that in 2014 it was recognized by the state as the Official Rum Cake of The Bahamas. Loaded with our top-secret ingredients, baked to perfection, and gently marinated in our signature brand of Ole Nassau Bahamian Rum, our cakes have become not just a dessert, but also an important part of a new lifestyle for both Bahamians and tourists.

Head to the heart of Nassau for a unique visit to the Ardastra Gardens & Wildlife Conservation Centre. This picturerscque property features more than four acres of lush tropical gardens inhabited by a dazzling array of animal species—including the national bird of The Bahamas, the Caribbean flamingo. Hand-feed playful parrots, meet beautiful Bahamian boa constrictors and be sure to watch the world-famous marching flamingos in action.

Stop At: John Watling’s Distillery, Buena Vista Estate 17 Delancy Street, Nassau 00000 New Providence Island
A tour of John Watling’s Distillery at the beautifully restored and historic Buena Vista Estate is a must-see for rum lovers and history buffs alike. Set on more than two acres of lush tropical gardens, and named after “a pious pirate who sailed the Bahamian seas”, John Watling’s features complimentary tours of the estate and the distillery, and offers tastings of a variety of handcrafted premium rums.

Stop At: Fort Montagu, Eastern Rd New Providence Island
Fort Montagu is a small fort of four cannons on the eastern shore of New Providence Island Bahamas. Peter Henry Bruce oversaw the construction of the fort that began in 1741 to defend the British possession from Spanish invaders.

Stop At: Graycliff Chocolatier, 8-14 West Hill Street, Nassau 00000 New Providence Island
With nearly 300 years’ worth of history, the beautiful Graycliff Hotel in downtown Nassau is steeped in glamour, romance, and thrilling tales. From its early days as a pirate hangout to its heyday as a sophisticated playground for the rich and famous, Graycliff is truly an “if those walls could talk” institution in The Bahamas. Today, the colonial mansion is a beloved attraction and home to a five-star restaurant, a chocolatier, a cigar company, and one of the world’s largest wine cellars.

Stop At: The Fish Fry, Fish Fry St, Nassau, The Bahamas
Named after the original West Indian inhabitants of the island and known locally as “The Fish Fry,” Arawak Cay dates back to 1969, when Nassau Harbour was dredged. The sand taken from the harbour was used to build Arawak Cay, and since that time, the restaurants of this iconic area have served traditional Bahamian fare to millions of locals and visitors alike. Nowadays, it also features an open stage and seating for performances and concerts—and if you’re lucky you may even get to watch some of the major Junkanoo groups like The Valley Boys practicing at Arawak Cay for the Boxing Day and New Year Junkanoo Parades.

Marina Village next to Atlantis. With over 20 designer and retail shops spread over 65,000 square feet—plus dining options ranging from casual and fine dining restaurants to grab-and-go meals and Starbucks.
