Day 1: San Jose to Arenal via Sarapiqui

Hola San Jose! After meeting up with your fellow Costa Rican explorers this morning we’ll get straight on the road, bound for the biodiverse beauty of Sarapiqui.

Stop At: Sarapiqui, Sarapiqui, Province of Heredia
Renowned for its fertile lands and gorgeous scenery, we’ll stop off here for our first taste of fresh Costa Rican air – not to mention our first dose of adventure for those keen to get a little wet and wild.

This afternoon we’ll learn the A-Z of chocolate making, an export Costa Rica is famous for.

How to round off the first day of our adventure? How about catching our first glimpse of one of the most incredible volcanoes in Costa Rica, Arenal. This volcano is near perfectly formed and famed for its hot springs and healing properties (hint hint).

Day 2: Arenal

Start your day off with a guided stroll around the beautiful hotel grounds. The choice is yours but we think the chance to spot some of the locals – monkeys and sloths, oh my – is worth getting out of bed for.

Maybe rappelling through a rainforest canyon will be the perfect wake up call this morning. Not keen? That adrenaline rush is not to be missed as your rappel through this stunning landscape.

Once you’ve all enjoyed a relaxing lunch to yourselves, we’ll go chasing waterfalls on a hike this afternoon.

Day 3: Arenal to Playa Tamarindo

Leaving Arenal towering behind us this morning we’ll move on for a taste of Costa Rican beach life.

On the way we’ll drop into the Macedemia Cafe, maybe you’ll purchase a delicious smoothie or a tasty fruit platter but we can guarantee you’ll enjoy the views here.

Stop At: Tamarindo Beach, Tamarindo Costa Rica
Playa Tamarindo has the reputation of being Costa Rica’s numero uno surf and party destination, and for good reason. This northern beach town boasts tasty waves and golden sands dotted with lounge bars and awesome restaurants.

Day 4: Playa Tamarindo

Today is all about taking it slow and discovering what this quirky beach town has to offer. Dip in and out of the shops and restaurants during the day and stop off at the bars in the evening to experience a different side of Costa Rican life.

Tamarindo is more than just a party and surf town, it forms part of Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas de Guanacaste so there’s plenty of natural beauty to take in too.

Day 5: Playa Tamarindo to Monteverde

It’s goodbye to the beach life for now as we pack up our towels and make for the mountains.

Feel the clean air filling your lungs as we arrive at the misty forests of Monteverde – a sight guaranteed to take your breath away. This leafy wildlife hotspot is home to butterfly gardens, coffee plantations, countless monkey species and passionate locals who work hard to preserve the balance between nature and tourism.

Day 6: Monteverde

Stop At: Butterfly Garden at Selvatura Park, Costa Rica

Get to experience this magical place at your own pace before needing a little pick-me-up, where have a Coffee Tour ready to give you the boost you need to make into the evening.

The afternoon is dedicated to learning about everyone’s favourite caffeinated friend – coffee. One of Costa Rica’s most famous exports, we’ll learn how the plants are cultivated and the entire process of turning delicious little berries into invigorating coffee beans.

Day 7: Monteverde to Jaco

This afternoon it’s time to check out the town or get right into some relaxing by the pool (or at the bar) whilst contemplating Costa Rican life, soaking up these last few days in paradise.

Day 8: Jaco via Manuel Antonio

Stop At: Manuel Antonio National Park, Manuel Antonio Costa Rica
Rise and shine! This morning we’ll head over to Manuel Antonio, a spectacular national park.

Manuel Antonio serves up a dizzying mix of ancient rainforest, pristine beaches and dazzling coral reefs. Get your cameras ready and be on the hunt for wildlife as we walk through this hub of mind boggling biodiversity. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the beach and the coach will wait to pick you up from the parks main entrance.

After a day of exploration this evening we’ll arrive back at our hotel for some poolside relaxation before heading out for our arranged farewell dinner. It’s always bitter sweet but we’ll raise a glass to the adventures we’ve had.

Day 9: Jaco to San Jose
