Basílica de los Angeles: Thousands of people go every year to the religious center in what is called a “pilgrimage”, in gratitude or request for favors. On that date and in accordance with a tradition dating from the late eighteenth century, the image is transferred to the cathedral of Carthage, located in the center of the city, where it remains until the beginning of September, when it is returned to the basilica , with a procession popularly called the Passage of the Virgin of the Angels.
Ruinas de cartago or ruins of Cartago are located east of the Plaza Mayor of the city. They are constituted by the walls and staircases of a temple of Romanesque style, whose construction began in the second half of the 19th century and was interrupted as a consequence of the Santa Monica earthquake (May 4, 1910).
Volcan Irazú: With an altitude of 3,432 meters above sea level, it is the highest volcano in Costa Rica. In the surroundings of the craters, a low vegetation can be observed and a diversity of flora and fauna species can be distinguished.
Due to its geological characteristics, it is an area of interest for students and scientists, since it has maintained eruptive manifestations in recent years.
