Day 1: SAN JOSÉ, COSTA RICA (20 MINUTES APPROX.) 16.9 KMS

Stop At: San Jose, San Jose, San Jose Metro, Province of San Jose
Welcome to San José, Costa Rica.

Reception at Juan Santamaría airport and transfer to hotel in San José.

The capital of San José is located in the middle of the Central Valley and in the center of the country, considered one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Latin America. The city is located in a strategic point near the main tourist attractions such as: historical buildings, museums, theaters, craft markets, beautiful parks, shopping centers and offers a varied gastronomic offer.

Day 2: SAN JOSÉ (1.5 HOUR APPROX.) 48.8 KMS

Stop At: Irazu Volcano National Park, Costa Rica
Departure to the Irazú Volcano while crossing fertile lands cultivated with vegetables. At the top of the volcano you can see its main craters and on a clear day you can see the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Later, a journey to the Orosí Valley, where creation overflows in settings of unequaled beauty. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Then visit the Lankester Botanical Garden, which protects more than 800 species of orchids as well as countless other plants. Finally, entrance to the Basilica of the Virgin of the Angels.

Day 3: SAN JOSÉ – ARENAL VOLCANO (3.5 HOURS APPROX.) 135KMS

Stop At: Arenal Volcano National Park, Arenal Volcano National Park, Province of Alajuela
In the morning transfer to the North Plains. There, the impressive Arenal Volcano awaits you, one of the natural wonders of the country for its majesty. Today there are no lava eruptions, but you can see the smoke or ash that is thrown off the top of the volcano and you can enjoy the hot springs in the area. Along the way and until you reach La Fortuna town, you will be able to appreciate agricultural plantations, ornamental plants and cattle farms.

Day 4: ARENAL VOLCANO

Stop At: Arenal Volcano National Park, Arenal Volcano National Park, Province of Alajuela
Visit a peasant farm where organic crops are grown and use responsible and environmentally friendly practices. You will learn about the importance of preserving the typical Costa Rican culture and traditions and learn about the main crops that have strengthened the economy of Costa Rica. Then you will enjoy a typical Costa Rican lunch. Later, you will hike inside the Arenal Volcano National Park, where it will take you through the vegetation and changing terrain of the ancient lava rivers called las coladas.

Day 5: ARENAL VOLCANO

Stop At: Rio Celeste, Tenorio Volcano National Park Costa Rica
Visit the mysterious and enchanting Rio Celeste waterfall, whose color makes it unique in the Tenorio Volcano National Park. Explore the park on a 7-kilometer (4.5-mile) hike through the tropical rain forest in the middle of the jungle until you reach “Los Teñideros”. You will also visit the famous “Borbollones”, where you can understand more about manifestations of volcanic activity. As you walk along the trails, you might meet some resident animals that roam the length of the forest. Finally, your reward will be a delicious traditional lunch.

Day 6: VOLCANO ARENAL – RINCON DE LA VIEJA (3.45 HOURS APPROX.) 189KMS

Stop At: Rincon de La Vieja, Rincon de La Vieja, Province of Guanacaste
Transfer to the province of Guanacaste, to the Rincón de la Vieja area where one of the five most active volcanoes in the country is located. El Rincón de la Vieja is considered a fascinating volcano due to its special characteristics such as: sulfurous lagoons, relaxing hot spring baths and fumaroles, as well as its main active crater. This region is surrounded by wonderful dense vegetation and is home to a plethora of species of insects and wildlife.

Day 7: RINCON DE LA VIEJA

Stop At: Rincon de La Vieja, Rincon de La Vieja, Province of Guanacaste
In the morning, walk to the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park, where you will find varied vegetation, low-cut bushes and dense humid forest. You will get to know from a dry forest, to a cloud one, in the middle of a volcanic environment in a short tour. It has 9 craters and volcanic cones at its top, as well as several cones on its slopes, all with variable heights. Later, you will visit the fascinating Oropendola Waterfall where you can refresh yourself in its emerald green water that will leave you speechless.

Day 8: RINCON DE LA VIEJA – POAS (5 HOURS APPROX.) 280KMS

Stop At: Poás Volcano, Alajuela Province, Central Canton of Alajuela, Costa Rica
Transfer to the province of Alajuela to visit another of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica on this expedition. The Poás Volcano National Park has one of the largest craters in the world and is located in the mountainous forests of the Central Volcanic Range, which is why it boasts magnificent natural landscapes. Also, you will have the opportunity to appreciate coffee plantations during the tour and cultural manifestations of communities surrounding the park, stops that we recommend for a complete visit.
